Indian Classical Arts at Kapilāranya Kṣhetram
Emphasizing that Carnatic compositions must always serve as an offering to Hindu gods rather than mere entertainment, Sri Sri Sri Maha Periyava stated:
“சங்கீதம் என்பது வெறும் பொழுதுபோக்கல்ல; அது பக்தி மார்க்கம். தியாகராஜ சுவாமிகள் போன்ற மகான்கள் தங்கள் பாடல்கள் மூலமாக இறைவனின் ரூபங்களை கண்முன்னே நிறுத்தினர். அந்தச் சொற்களும் (ஸாகித்யமும்) நாதமும் (ஸங்கீதமும்) சேரும்போது அதுவே உண்மையான பூஜை.”
Translation
“Music is not mere entertainment; it is the path of devotion (bhakti). Great saints like Thyagaraja brought the forms of God alive before our eyes through their songs. When those lyrics (sahitya) and musical notes (sangeetha) unite, that itself becomes true worship.”

Our Mission
One of the core missions of the Sri Kamakshi Community Center (SKCC) is to celebrate the rich heritage of Indian classical arts and traditions by providing a vibrant platform for local artists to perform at the Kapilāranya Kṣhetram in Morgan Hill, California.
Our Cultural Calendar & Major Events
SKCC hosts enriching cultural events throughout the year, offering wonderful performance opportunities for children, as well as young and established artists.
While performances take place year-round, our major cultural programs are specially conducted during the four Navaratri celebrations:
- Shyamala Navaratri — tentatively Jan/Feb
- Vasantha Navaratri — tentatively Mar/Apr
- Varahi Navaratri — tentatively Jun/Jul
- Sharada Navaratri — tentatively Sep/Oct
Artists and cultural groups are welcome to reach out to us at any time throughout the year if you are interested in performing at SKCC. We would be happy to explore opportunities to include performances as part of our ongoing cultural programs.
